Ash Kaiser Miracle Fighting Level! | | Well, the PS3 hardware is proving troublesome even to established game developers, so that's a pretty obvious hurdle. |
Now now, Roel. Don't make the PS3 look bad. That's Sony's job.
However, I've heard plenty of horror stories about how Microsoft handles licencing for Xbox360 (Live Arcade) games, so that doesn't seem like the perfect candidate either. |
I've read that you need to put up a fair bit of money and you have to meet the really high criteria to actually get your game on XBLA, and I get the feeling that R4 probably wouldn't meet all of them (not that it's a bad thing that it wouldn't).
As for the Wii, I happen to know that its hardware is fairly accessible, and Nintendo usually treats developers in a more humane fashion than Microsoft does. Except perhaps for Bob from "Bob's Game", who was denied a DS SDK and is now protesting Nintendo's decision by locking himself in a small room for 100 days. |
That's madness. I don't know what to think of Nintendo sometimes. They appear to be the friendliest of the bunch, but then they do things like this and it makes them appear somewhat less friendly. |

Exactly. Pay for a dev kit, pay to get your game approved, pay to get the game on the XBLA server, pay to keep it there, plus some more hidden fees. Definitely not an attractive platform for small developers like ourselves. And although I don't know much about Microsoft's criteria other than a few things I've heard and read, I do know that meeting them is an expensive matter.
I do, however, have first-hand experience with Nintendo's criteria. I must say their vision of "quality" is spectacularly skewed, but unlike Microsoft they don't demand the impossible. They just seem to want developers to jump through a series of very weird hoops. |

| | By the way, you're an unknown word, derb. |
Not if you speak german (if you're indeed talking about my nick name). |
The English synonyme for Derb is crass, crude. |

| | Right now it doesn't, and I don't think it ever will. I don't believe the lack of a reset-on-open feature will hamper anyone's enjoyment of the game, will it? |
I doubt it, but it would be a nice touch. No matter just wanted to get that out there.
I agree with the points in comparison between Nintendo and Microsoft in terms of DLC type games, as one is very lax and can nearly allow anyone to develop for DLC whereas the other has a very strict set of rules and payments to be arranged beforehand. |
